It is with sadness we announce the passing of Roy Joseph MacNeil,74, of Ellsworth Ave., New Waterford on Feb. 3, 2010 at New Waterford Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Hector and Catherine (MacNeil) MacNeil.

Roy was a Coal Miner in #12 and Lingan mines until his retirement. In his younger years he sailed on the Lake Boats and enjoyed working on cars.

Surviving are daughter, Heather Ferguson, New Glasgow; four sisters, Anna Lever, Peggy (Paul) Rutledge, both of New Waterford, Madeline McCarthy, Sydney, Gina Creighton, Avon, Mass.; two grandsons, Logan and Kyle; brother-in-law, Melvin MacKenzie, New Wateford; sister-in-law Joan Murray, Dominion; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife Nora and three brothers, Jimmie, Johnnie and Matthew.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Roy will be held Friday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Paul MacNeil officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Heather, I remember your father coming to visit my parents when i was younger. He was always so sweet & kind to me. Even when i got older, i'd meet him down town and he STILL knew who i was (even though the span of many years had passed.) He was a pleasant man that will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Roy
