Theresa Muriel Harter (nee MacGillivray)
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Theresa Muriel Harter (nee MacGillivray) of New Victoria, Cape Breton on March 7, 2010, at the New Waterford Hospital. Born in Victoria Mines, she was a daughter of the late Waldon MacGillivray and Laura Mae (Ling).

Muriel was born and raised in Victoria Mines but raised her children in Toronto Ontario where she worked for the Cancer Detection Clinic and made many life long friends both in her church (St. Margaret’s) and at work and in her neighbourhood. She was a devout Catholic who loved the church and did much work in all the parishes she belonged to. She and her husband Herbert Harter retired to Victoria B.C. After her husband Herb died she returned home to Cape Breton. She led a full life and was always looking for ways to help others. She touched many lives and brought joy to us all. She loved to laugh, sing, and if inspired maybe do a jig.

Muriel will be missed by her children, Linda ( Rick), Robert, and John-Henry (Lee-Anne); her grandchildren Jamie Lee, Tyler, Laura, John, Theresa-Anne and Linda and her one great grandchild James. She will be sorely missed by her surviving brothers Jim MacGillivray and Blaise MacGillivray, and sisters Geraldine MacSween, Mary MacNeil, and Bernadette Dunphy.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband Herbert, brother Waldon and sisters, Genevieve, Laura, and Lenore.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, March 10 at 10.a.m. in the Parish Church of St.Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery at a later date. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Parish of St.Leonard or a charity of one’s choice. No flowers by request.

To the Family of the Late Theresa Muriel Harter (nee MacGillivray): I am writing to express my sincere sympathy on the death of your loved one, Theresa. Those whose lives she touched will not soon forget Theresa’s contribution to the community. Words can never put into perspective the sorrow and emptiness that is suffered at such a loss as yours. I do hope your pain is eased somewhat by knowing that others too feel sadness and want to share that very heavy burden. My prayers are with you. Sincerely, Rodger Cuzner, M.P., Cape Breton-Canso

Muriel.....I know that you are up in Heaven with the brightest wings. You were a true angel on earth that will be missed by many.....especially my mom "Doris". I will never forget the story of how you met....who would have thought that the drive to the bus would turn into such a wonderful friendship. You and Mom were "kindred spirits" who loved to laugh together! Someone made the comment to me "Your Mom and Muriel were like two teenager laughing and giggling together". Our family was blessed to have know such a wonderful person. Love June & family

Muriel was the best mother-in-law I could have ever had. I will always remember her positive attitude and her love of baking. She loved to sing songs to her grandkids and always had a variety of sayings for every occasion. I will miss her greatly.
