It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John A. MacDougall of Glace Bay. John A. passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Glace Bay Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Hector Joseph and Margaret Mary “Rita” (Bryden) MacDougall. He was a member of St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay. John A. was employed as an automotive painter with Scotia Chrysler, Kenmount Ford and Hyland Motors. He loved photography, photographing events such as weddings, reunions and travel. John A. was a quiet, caring, giving of himself and an optimist. He always greeted people with a smile and was dependable. He volunteered in community activities, such as, Meals on Wheels, Breakfast School Program, Canadian Cancer Society and Cape Breton Health Authority. John A. was 4th Degree Knight, Life time member of the Knights of Columbus.

John A. will be sadly missed by brothers, Roddy (Camille), Syl (Linda), Eddy (Tammie), Bryden (Barb), sisters, Josie Creegan, Peggy (Rick) Wilmot, Mary (Paul) Robinson, Rose (Joe) Van Doninck, Ritzie (Gilbert) Morrison, aunt and uncle, Gracey and Ernie Udby and Bernie and Denise Bryden.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hector and Rita MacDougall, sister, Christina “Tenie”, brother, Bernie, partner, Mary Ellen “Babe” Currie.

Visitation for John A. will be held Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The K.O.C. members are asked to assemble in the funeral home 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a service. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery. A luncheon will follow, all are welcome. Donations in John A’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Center, Sydney and Glace Bay Hospital, special thanks to nephew, Derek and his wife, Colleen for their support and care of John A. during his illness. Also to Fr. McIntyre at St. Leo’s Church for his support.
