It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jo-Ann Martell age 62 of Glace Bay. Jo-Ann passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with her loving family by her side.
Jo-Ann was the daughter of the late Wallace and Margaret (Curtis) Huntington. She was a member of Warden United Church, Glace Bay. She was a nursery school volunteer for Town House for 14 years. She loved to sew and do crafts.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Dayna Martell, Glace Bay, step daughters, Dale (Bob) Jesky, Alberta, Karen (Wayne) MacNeil, Truro, Sandra (Doug) Rowe, Ont., Bonnie (Michael) Tracey, Glace Bay, Wanda (Almeida) Valens, Ont., sons, Louis (Rene), Ronald (Lynn), Alberta, step son, Dwayne (Lee), Ont., brothers, John, Sydney; Charles "Butch" (Hazel), Ont., sisters, Carolyn (Don) Crooks, Sydney, Margie (John) Bingley, Fishermen’s Harbour, N.S., Sandra Huntington, Antigonish, Debbie (Wade) Manthorne, Halifax, Sharon (Gerald “Duke”) Campbell, Glace Bay. Also surviving are 15 cherished grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and granddaughter, Lara at home whom Jo-Ann raised as a daughter.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Louis “Lou” Martell on June 20, 2010, daughter, Michelle, in infancy, brother, Billy and sisters, Jo-Ann and Honey.
Visitation for Jo-Ann will be held Friday, August 27, 2010, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday at Warden United Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church, all are welcome. Cremation will take place and interment will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Port Morien.
