Calvin E. Kennedy, age 81 of Museum Street, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 27, 2010 at his residence.

Born in Glace Bay, Calvin was the son of the late Peter and Ethel (MacDonald) Kennedy.

He was employed for 5 years at the Devco Machine Shop, Glace Bay. Calvin then moved on and joined the Canadian Military, serving 27 years with the R.C.E.M.E.
He was a Veteran and long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 3, Glace Bay. Calvin was twice,Past Master at the MacKay Masonic Lodge 113, Sydney. He played the bagpipes and was a member of the Gaelic Society.
Calvin loved collecting coins and reading. He was also a very spiritual man. But mostly, he will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who always brought a sense of calm and joy to his family in any situation they faced throughout life’s journey.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Audrey (Connors) Kennedy, four daughters, Sandra (Allan) Lepine, Ottawa, Lorraine (Richard) Etmanski, Edmonton, Lois Kennedy, London, Ontario, Gerry (William) Wolfe, Ottawa and one sister, Carmaine Murphy, Ontario.

Calvin is survived by nine grandchildren, Tammy, Richie, Michelle, Melanie, Melissa, Peter, Kevin, Iaian, Alyssa, five great grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon, Riley, Domenic and Daniel.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Sherwin and a sister, Madeline Adshade.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Tuesday, August 31, from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.
At 1:45 p.m. the Masonic Lodge will hold their prayer service followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Norman McPhee officiating.
R.C.L. , Branch No. 3 will hold their ceremonial ritual for their fallen comrade at the end of the funeral service.

Interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, Lower Level, all are welcome.

As an expression of sympathy for Calvin, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
